Value of Perfusion and Permeability Measurements in Distinguishing Between Benign and Malignant Vertebral Lesions

چکیده
Introduction: Almost all studies on dynamic contrast-enhanced MRI (DCE-MRI) in the spine [1,2] are based on descriptive perfusion indices like maximum signal enhancement. These suffer from well-known limitations like dependence on experimental variables and an ill-defined relation to hemodynamic parameters. Quantitative analysis with the Tofts model resolves the first issue, but not the second [3]. When the data are measured at a sufficiently high temporal resolution, a more general two-compartment model can be used providing an unambiguous interpretation [4]. The purpose of this study was to assess the potential of this approach to distinguish between pathological and osteoporotic fractures based on perfusion metrixs.

Studying the specificity of bone SPECT for differentiating malignant from benign lesions in the vertebral column of the patients with a known primary malignancy [Persian]
Metastatic survey of the patients with known primary malignancies with bone scan is one of the most common studies in nuclear medicine. Unfortunately the conventional planar bone scan has a very low specificity for differentiating benign from malignant lesions especially in the spinal column. In this study, we compared the specificity of SPECT imaging and convention...
متن کاملDifferential diagnostic value of computed tomography perfusion combined with vascular endothelial growth factor expression in head and neck lesions
There are numerous types of head and neck lesions (HNLs), and conventional computed tomography (CT) has low specificity and sensitivity in the definitive and differential diagnosis of HNLs. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the value of perfusion CT (CTP) combined with vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) expression in the differentiation between malignant and benign HNLs. In to...
متن کامل99mTc-MIBI scintigraphy in musculoskeletal tumors [Persian]
The aim of this study was to assess the value of 99mTc-hexakis-2-methoxyisobutylisonitrile (MIBI) scintigraphy in patients with clinical and radiologic features of primary or metastatic musculoskeletal tumors. Methods: The scintigraphic findings for 84 patients were compared with the surgical and histologic findings. Each patient underwent three-phase bone scan with 99mTc-methylene diphos...
متن کاملPerfusion CT for head and neck tumors: pilot study.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Differentiation of malignant from benign head and neck lesions is often very difficult on imaging studies, especially in patients with treated cancer. We evaluated the feasibility and reproducibility of perfusion CT (CTP) after enhanced head and neck CT and attempted to differentiate benign from malignant processes. METHODS CTP was attempted in 17 patients after head an...
متن کاملComparison of the Results of Fine Needle Aspiration Biopsy Specimens and Permanent Histopathologic Preparation in Orbital Mass Lesions
Background and Objectives: We aimed at evaluating the efficacy of fine needle aspiration biopsy (FNA) in comparison with histopathology and demonstrating whether cytological study could be a proper diagnostic tool in orbital mass lesions. Materials and Methods: In a cross sectional study during 36 months, patients referred to our ophthalmologic center affiliated to Tehran University of Medical...
